350 Climate Action – South Bay Style! The Whole World is Watching…

Banners Revised round 3v2

That’s the banner that will be strung across Manhattan Ave in downtown Manhattan Beach next week to herald our South Bay 350 Climate Action Group event on the beach as our part of the International Day of Climate Action. It’s thanks to our host city of Manhattan Beach and our wonderful partners at the South Bay Environmental Services Center.

And here’s the banner that will be stretching across Highway 1 at Marine Avenue courtesy of our great allies at Surfrider Foundation

City of MB Banner Surfrider banner

We’ve got the entire South Bay fired up, ready to go!  And we’re reaching out to all 10 million citizens of the County of Los Angeles.  These are YOUR beaches, this is YOUR time, this is the issue of  YOUR generation.  Join us and lets stand shoulder to shoulder to take action for our children and their children!

That’s why the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted yesterday to pass a resolution declaring October 24, 2009 “International Day of Climate Action” for L.A. County.  Check it out after the jump.

The Sad States of Global Warming & Their Sorry Senators

Hey, Max Baucus and Jon Tester in Montana – Do either of you US Senators have a clue on climate change?  It sure doesn’t seem so from the weak, milquetoast style nonleadership you’re both dishing up on this issue that neither of you seems to understand too well.  We can’t afford your ignorance any longer.  Time to cowboy up fellas.  I know you both like to prance in front of the media in cowboy hats, but that phony play acting doesn’t get the job done on climate.  And yeah, I know you’re fellow Democrats, that’s why I have the right to be so frank and direct with you both.

My friends at the World Wildlife Fund are nicer about it in their new video directed at your fellow Montanans, but neither of you two public servants has earned that courtesy through your actions.

What about you Senators Snowe and Collins of Maine?  You’ve been two weak sisters when it comes to defending your own state against its greatest risk and there’s nothing “moderate” about that.  All that global warming isn’t just coming from women your age having hot flashes, or don’t you get that?  It doesn’t appear that you do, from your actions so far.  Don’t you love and care about the people of your own state?  If you do, you’re going to have to move at a much faster speed with a much sharper response ladies… Watch the Maine WWF video after the jump

Cisco DeVries’ AB 811 Baby Goes Nationwide: President Clinton Backs USA PACE Bond Program

Sept 24, 2009, New York City (Sourced from prnewswire– The Clinton Global Initiative announced this afternoon a breakthrough for the long overdue clean energy retrofitting of America’s homes, commercial and apartment buildings.

President Clinton himself made the announcement of a national PACE finance program as part of the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York.  PACE stands for Property Assessed Clean Energy.

It’s exactly the same kind of land secured financing we’ve been reporting on here at Creative Greenius for over a year now in our coverage of AB 811.  And it all began as the brainchild of Cisco DeVries, AB 811’s undisputed Godfather and its most effective champion.

Greenius Salutes Greenpeace for Pittsburgh Climate Action – Demand Dramatic Action NOW

It’s time – right now – to take dramatic action on climate change if you care about preserving a livable civilization for your children and their children. At this moment we are right on track for “disastrous climate changes that spiral dynamically out of humanity’s control,” as Dr. James Hansen warmed us 15 months ago.  At that time he said we had 12 months in which to start acting.

While the paid-off ballwashers and sycophants of the fossil fuel industry sellout their country, our citizens and their own families’ future – for reasons only the people on their Bizzaro World home planet, can comprehend – the activists of Greenpeace are telling the truth and telling it in ways impossible to ignore.

They deserve your praise, your thanks and your admiration.  They are this era’s Paul Revere and they warn of the real calamity to come.  The true patriots of our country will heed that call and are already prepared to fight for a better climate.

Cleaning Up The Coast – While It’s Still Here

Tomorrow morning I’m going to walk out my front door and the five minutes down the hill it takes to reach the Torrance beach where Heal the Bay has one of its 60 different clean up sites in the L.A. area.  There I’ll join over 12,000 volunteers from all over Los Angeles will take action to rid our beaches and inland waterways of unsightly and harmful debris.

We’ll all be part Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD), the international event with over 60 countries around the world participating, making it one of the largest volunteer efforts on the planet!  I’m real big on world wide volunteer efforts – as I’ll remind you after the jump.

The Summit On Clean Tech Law & The New Energy Policy

windpowerMy friend, attorney Leslie Williams, of Shaub and Williams, has been busy for the past few months putting together a big Renewable Energy Law Summit at the Southwestern Law School in L.A. and it takes place next week, on Sept 18.

If it wasn’t my 52nd birthday and I wasn’t already volunteering for the South Bay Environmental Services Center that day in Lawndale, I’d be there – because the lineup Leslie’s put together is pretty terrific:

Wakeup! The Sea Level is Rising & Another Island Nation’s People Are About To Become Climate Change Refugees

Here is why I spend all of my time working on climate change issues and why we are gathering on the beach here in Southern California on October 24 in Manhattan Beach for 350.org International Day of Climate Action to demonstrate what sea level rise will do to us here on the West Coast:

Please watch this BBC video and learn what’s going on right now in your own world.  You will be amazed and you will wonder why you never saw anything about this in the mainstream media.

Greenius Talks Climate Change Sense of Urgency with Bill Nye the Science Guy

In August I covered the Plug-In 2009 Conference in Long Beach for Creative Greenius and provided exclusive photos and commentary.

On the final night of the conference, August 13, a public night was held featuring a forum with Bill Nye the Science Guy, Chelsea Sexton and “Who Killed the Electric Car” Director, Chris Paine. In this excerpt from the complete video provided by Plug-In America on YouTube, I ask the panel about the sense of urgency I felt at the 2008 conference but found lacking here in 2009:
