While Fossil Fools Ignore Climate Crisis EcoMedia Acts Aggressively to Protect Environment

The latest news on global warming could not be worse.  Climate scientists now agree that we won’t be able to restrict warming to just 2 degrees – which would have been bad enough.  Those in the know, including NOAA say there is no doubt that the world’s extreme weather is being caused by climate change.  And last week’s The Planet Under Pressure conference, made up of planet’s top scientific experts on the climate issued an urgent plea for action as we reach the tipping points for runaway global warming from which there will be no reversal or respite.

Civilization is at risk,” they warned.

But no one is listening.  You don’t read these stories in your newspaper or on mainstream news sites or see them on your TV news.  The fossil fuel industry floods the airwaves and Internet with lethal lies and propaganda in a nonstop assault on reason and intelligence.  News of the Mega Millons lottery jackpot and the gunning down of individuals in American cities trumps the most important story of the last 100 years.  Distracted by the bread and circuses of our time and doomed by our own lizard brains half of the United States population believes that global warming is a hoax designed to make scientists wealthy.  Every Republican running for President of this country agrees with that ruse and vows to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency.  Nothing I do can change any of that.

Faced with this bizzaro world reality I have opted out of futile protests and demonstrations and chosen to do the only thing I can do – increase the amount of renewable energy, energy efficiency, tree plantings and sustainability practices in the most effective way I can.  Which is why I now work for EcoMedia, who is responsible for doing all of those things, and more.

Greenius on Patch.com – Helping AOL Get HyperLocal

It’s been weeks since I’ve opined on this page and one of  the reasons why is the time it’s taken launching two new columns for AOL’s Patch.com.  I’m writing a weekly column on environmental issues for Hermosa Beach Patch and a weekly column on bicycling and the South Bay Bicycle Coalition news for Redondo Beach Patch.

AOL is backing Patch.com with an initial $50 million and hiring journalists to provide hyperlocal coverage in communities of 15,000-100,000 on both coasts.  And I’m helping to provide that coverage in Redondo and Hermosa including shooting photos and video.

I’ve only been doing it for or a month or so, but so far I’m digging the experience and happy to broaden my local readership and Creative Greenius reach.

There was an interesting piece by James Rainey in today’s LAT focusing specifically on Manhattan Beach Patch but I don’t think Rainy has any particular insight or perspective on the issue.

Unlike yours truly who has nothing BUT particular insight and perspective on not only this issue but so many more.  And that’s exactly what a brain dead populace is looking for these days and exactly why I’m stretching my already overburdened schedule to  bring my fellow South Bay citizens Patch pieces like these I’ve already had published:

Getting To Work In Hermosa Beach – The Carbon Neutral ClueTrain Leaves the Station

Courtesy of YouTube and the Hermosa Beach City website, and converted and enlarged through the magic of Greenius, we bring you this exclusive look at the Carbon Neutral ClueTrain leaving the Hermosa Beach station this week.  Local mainstream media missed this story completely but fortunately for them this on-line record will exist for them to use as research.  So will the reporting that the new Patch.com news group will be providing.

The story actually began last week during Hermosa Beach Mayor’s State of the City address where Mayor Michael DiVirgilio spoke about the Carbon Neutral City concept:

Mayor DiVirgilio was right back at it Monday night at the Hermosa Beach Green Task Force meeting, speaking enthusiastically on behalf of the idea:

Join us after the jump to see your friendly neighborhood Greenius and my Fratelli Verde, Robert Fortunato, following the Mayor with our own remarks.

Where We’ve Been, Where We’re At & Where We’re Going

It’s my great honor to have written this update on our South Bay Los Angeles 350 Climate Action Group  for the 350.org site where you will find it cross posted and currently on their homepage. I’m proud to be associated in any way with Bill McKibben, May Boeve, Matt Fitzgerald, Joe Solomon, Jamie Henn and every other organizer I’ve come in contact with from the 350 team.

It’s exactly two weeks to the day since we surprised a whole lot of folks with an Amazing Waving Human Tide Line on our South Bay Los Angeles beach that stretched much further than any of us could see from the start of the line at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

It was indeed amazing, it was most definitely waving and it was filled with hundreds and hundreds of humans showing the world that we Southern Californians are anything but mellow or laid-back when it comes to demanding a 350 ppm CO2 target and the actions necessary to protect our children’s’ future survival.

The energy, buzz and sheer power of the 1,300 strong and very potent mix of people of every age, from every walk of life and from every rung on the ladder who made history on our beach is still reverberating throughout the community and down every hall of power on the local, regional, county, state and federal level.  And we have no intention of letting those vibrations subside.

“Greenius Was Right!” says US Congressman Inslee from Washington State

In one of the Creative Greenius’ most highly read posts, written on July 29 of this year, I said there was no difference between today’s global warming deniers and the heads of the tobacco industry a few years back.

Yesterday my position was correctly stated by Rep. Jay Inslee a democrat from the great Pacific Northwest state of Washington who tore the authors of SuperWeakEconomics a new one for all their lies and hack writing in their new, already discredited book.

Torrance Goes All 350 for October 24, Ready to do The Amazing Waving Human Tide Line

It was a historic night in Torrance, California this evening as long-held differences were put aside and the City and your Creative Greenius came together to join forces on behalf of Saturday’s 350.org International Day of Climate Action.  That’s me with my new favorite Councilman Cliff Numark just before the Council session started.  Doesn’t he look relieved and happy?  Don’t I look friendly and reasonable?  It’s a new day in Torrance my friends.

It gets even better for those of us working to bring CO2 levels back down to 350 parts per million as you’ll see after the jump with exclusive video you’ll only see here first on Creative Greenius

The Cat Is Still On The Roof – And The Roof! The Roof! The Roof Is On Fire!

I originally wrote and published this piece in June of 2008 under the title “The Cat Is On The Roof – This Joke is at YOUR Expense…”

bad-180-150

Today, on this very special Blog Action Day Creative Greenius, I take you back to June of 2008 and ask you: What the hell have YOU been doing for the past 15 months?  Worried about your finances and the crash of the economy?  That ain’t nothing compared to what’s on tap for you next.

You woke up to a house on fire, and you best stop thinking that smell is coffee.

California Goes To Hell In A Handbasket But Greenius Says AB 811 is Our Route To Green Heaven

P1040763As my beloved state of California’s driftless and leaderless economy was being driven deeper and deeper into the toilet by the least impressive occupants of Sacramento in modern history, I hopped in my del Sol Greeniusmobile and motored to downtown Los Angeles last month headed for the palatial headquarters of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the MTA.

I had ventured forth from the calm, cooling breezes of my mellow beach community because the treasure map I had recently discovered showed that over $600 million was available inside that building.

The treasure chest was cleverly disguised in the form of Federal stimulus money from the ARRA, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Imagine that.

While it’s sad but true that the entire gang in Sacramento can no longer figure out how to make California work,  President Obama and his “Yes I Can” team do know what they’re doing.  That’s why they have authorized over $7 billion bucks in energy efficiency and clean energy programs for the USA.  And damned if California isn’t going to score like a horny Republican Governor on Viagra in Argentina.

Get Your Monkeywrenches Ready! Politicians Beg For Climate Change Wake Up Call

While the finely tailored and pampered leaders of the G8 met in Italy to talk the issue of climate change to death and do nothing tangible about it, activists with a more realistic sense of urgency started to take the necessary action to start cutting greenhouse gases right now.

Brave environmental activists from Greenpeace actually took a bold climate initiative today, doing so in my grandfather’s homeland of Italy, where they occupied four coal-fired power plants.  It’s a shame they didn’t hold those plants hostage until they turn those plants into “clean coal” plants. Your Greenius wishes he was there with them because coal-fired power plants are the enemy of mankind and deserve to be shut down until they stop killing people and the climate.

In the United States, a different set of high climbers made another powerful statement this time directly on the face of Mount Rushmore with a banner as long as Lincoln’s face reading:

Americans honor leaders, not politicians. Stop global warming.

Michael Jackson Comes Back From Dead to Blast L.A. Times Climate Change Coverage

thriller25Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, returned from the great hereafter this morning to condemn the Los Angeles Times for being a cause of global warming and then covering it up in the newspaper he mocked as,

Already more lifeless and brain dead than I am now!

The once Gloved-One threw down his ghostly gauntlet and said tomorrow’s memorial at Staples Center would be more rightly held for the L.A. Times since it was time to bury the now deceased legacy media member born in 1889 which he says shows no sign of life.

The L.A. Times isn’t a newspaper anymore, it’s an abusepaper that is part of the climate change problem, not part of the solution,

said the still world popular entertainment legend.
