Greenius Presents: My Pal Governor Schwarzenegger on What’s Coming Next & Why AB 32 Needs Your Love

As your friendly neighborhood Greenius continues with his efforts to help Hermosa Beach become the first carbon neutral city in the South Bay, it might help some of you to get up to speed on what we already know is coming our way here in California from climate change and global weirding.

So why not let my old pal, Governor Schwarzenegger tell it to you straight about what we’re doing here in California to prepare for what we already see coming our way:

Unlike the astoundingly large group of dumbed-down states in the USA who happily have their heads up their own asses when it comes to sharing the climate change facts with their citizens and actually taking the bold actions necessary, California isn’t lying and isn’t delaying.  If we have any chance at all of stopping catastrophic climate change from making the future a moot point for your kids, the rest of the country is going to have to follow our lead with emissions cuts, energy efficiency and renewable energy use.

Many of them will have to be dragged kicking and screaming – as usual – but if we have to go caveman on them to help save ourselves, then so be it.

If You Love the Ocean Consider This… Then Do Something

You don’t have to live in a beach community to love the ocean – or to grok how critical to our own survival healthy seas really are. No where else on our planet are the current impacts of global warming being felt more strongly.

That’s why I’m so happy to learn today that Oceana, the international ocean conservation group, is rolling out a new ad campaign tomorrow designed to influence policy makers arriving in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15), December 7 -18, 2009.

Their impossible to ignore ads spotlight the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 350 parts per million (ppm) to avert a mass extinction of corals and likely declines in the countless marine species that depend upon them, this century.   If that’s too hard to understand, let me simplify it for you after the jump.

Where We’ve Been, Where We’re At & Where We’re Going

It’s my great honor to have written this update on our South Bay Los Angeles 350 Climate Action Group  for the 350.org site where you will find it cross posted and currently on their homepage. I’m proud to be associated in any way with Bill McKibben, May Boeve, Matt Fitzgerald, Joe Solomon, Jamie Henn and every other organizer I’ve come in contact with from the 350 team.

It’s exactly two weeks to the day since we surprised a whole lot of folks with an Amazing Waving Human Tide Line on our South Bay Los Angeles beach that stretched much further than any of us could see from the start of the line at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

It was indeed amazing, it was most definitely waving and it was filled with hundreds and hundreds of humans showing the world that we Southern Californians are anything but mellow or laid-back when it comes to demanding a 350 ppm CO2 target and the actions necessary to protect our children’s’ future survival.

The energy, buzz and sheer power of the 1,300 strong and very potent mix of people of every age, from every walk of life and from every rung on the ladder who made history on our beach is still reverberating throughout the community and down every hall of power on the local, regional, county, state and federal level.  And we have no intention of letting those vibrations subside.

My Gorgeous Wife Debra Doing The Amazing Waving Human Tide Line Saturday

I’ve been married to Debra Bushweit Galliani since August 2, 1981. There may have been beauty queens and bikini babes galore on the beach with us for our International Day of Climate Action but I only have eyes for this girl starting the wave from the front of the line!

Got Sea Level Rise? Better Get to 350

Headed our way soon?

It’s not just those of us living on the coasts who need worry ’bout what’s coming next…

350 Climate Action – South Bay Style! The Whole World is Watching…

Banners Revised round 3v2

That’s the banner that will be strung across Manhattan Ave in downtown Manhattan Beach next week to herald our South Bay 350 Climate Action Group event on the beach as our part of the International Day of Climate Action. It’s thanks to our host city of Manhattan Beach and our wonderful partners at the South Bay Environmental Services Center.

And here’s the banner that will be stretching across Highway 1 at Marine Avenue courtesy of our great allies at Surfrider Foundation

We’ve got the entire South Bay fired up, ready to go!  And we’re reaching out to all 10 million citizens of the County of Los Angeles.  These are YOUR beaches, this is YOUR time, this is the issue of  YOUR generation.  Join us and lets stand shoulder to shoulder to take action for our children and their children!

That’s why the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted yesterday to pass a resolution declaring October 24, 2009 “International Day of Climate Action” for L.A. County.  Check it out after the jump.

Cleaning Up The Coast – While It’s Still Here

Tomorrow morning I’m going to walk out my front door and the five minutes down the hill it takes to reach the Torrance beach where Heal the Bay has one of its 60 different clean up sites in the L.A. area.  There I’ll join over 12,000 volunteers from all over Los Angeles will take action to rid our beaches and inland waterways of unsightly and harmful debris.

We’ll all be part Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD), the international event with over 60 countries around the world participating, making it one of the largest volunteer efforts on the planet!  I’m real big on world wide volunteer efforts – as I’ll remind you after the jump.
