Greenpeace CSI – On the Scene of a Climate Crime Spree!

I’m very proud to be a Greenpeace volunteer and supporter and I had a blast last night at the Greenpeace holiday party in Silver Lake with Southern California Field Organizer for Greenpeace, the amazing Jenny Binstock.  I’ve met and worked with some terrific people through Greenpeace Los Angeles and most of them were there last night.  I’m very excited about our plans for the year ahead.

This morning I woke up to the latest sheer creative greenius on the part of the masters at Greenpeace who staged an action in our nation’s capitol that is absolutely brilliant!  Their Climate Emergency Response Team went into action at the scene of the crime – The US Chamber of Horrors – I mean Commerce  – HQ in DC.  I sure wish I could have been there!

We Stand With The Small Island Nations! Candlelight Vigil for Survival in Hermosa Beach

Members of our South Bay Los Angeles 350 Climate Action Group speak to our representatives and fellow activists in Copenhagen at Friday night’s Candlelight Vigil in downtown Hermosa Beach.  Unedited and unrehearsed, our straight from the heart messages.

And here’s some still photos from our event.  To see our Flickr photo slide show click here.

That’s our co-host and 350 supporter, the Mayor of Hermosa Beach, Michael DiVirgilio, behind the big number 5.

And here’s your Creative Greenius and 350.org Organizer for the South Bay Los Angeles 350 Climate Action Group.  That big smile on my face is because our community showed up and brought their compassion for our brothers and sisters across the Pacific who live on the small island nations, like Tuvalu.  If you’re a regular Creative Greenius reader you know how concerned I am about the plight of island states like Tonga, the Carteret Islands, the Maldives and Kirabati.  It breaks my heart to think of those people paying the price for the way we live our lives here in the USA but it gives me great hope for the future that my friends and neighbors now stand with me on their behalf.

Welcome to the Clean Energy Revolution! Lying Lobbiests for Oil & Coal Punk’d in Copenhagen

Here’s professional con man, Tim Phillips, paid lackey for the coal, oil and gas industries trying to use the Copenhagen Climate Summit as a propaganda platform and failing miserably.  It’s Tim’s job to spin the story so that you believe his clients shouldn’t have to pay for the damage they do and the endangerment their greenhouse gas spewing products put us in.  Here’s smug Timmy getting his well paid lunch handed to him by a volunteer group of clean energy advocates.

Thomas Friedman Explains Climate Change Action For You

From Today’s, December 9, New York Times: Thomas Friedman,

“If we prepare for climate change by building a clean-power economy, but climate change turns out to be a hoax, what would be the result? Well, during a transition period, we would have higher energy prices. But gradually we would be driving battery-powered electric cars and powering more and more of our homes and factories with wind, solar, nuclear and second-generation biofuels. We would be much less dependent on oil dictators who have drawn a bull’s-eye on our backs; our trade deficit would improve; the dollar would strengthen; and the air we breathe would be cleaner. In short, as a country, we would be stronger, more innovative and more energy independent.

But if we don’t prepare, and climate change turns out to be real, life on this planet could become a living hell.”

South Bay Bikes! Greenius & Friends Take To The Streets To Change The Rules of the Road

Members of the newly formed South Bay Bicycle Coalition are happy with the Hermosa Beach "sharrows," which allow bicyclists to use a lane of traffic on Hermosa Avenue. The group hopes to see more South Bay cities install such bicycle-friendly facilities. (Steve McCrank, Daily Breeze Staff Photographer)

Last Thursday your friendly, neighborhood Greenius hopped on my bike and cruised on down the hill to the beginning of the bike path on the beach that I’ve ridden on as far as Malibu in the past.  But last week it was just a short carbon-free spin over to Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach to meet up with my fellow members of the new South Bay Bicycle Coalition.  That’s us in the photo above, with group founder Todd Dipaola on the far left and the CG in the red shirt on the far right.  I’ll tell you all about it in an upcoming post, but meanwhile why not read this informative piece in the good, old Daily Breeze by clicking here.

Hey Exxon! Hey Chevron! My Friends At the EPA Are Declaring What You Do Dangerous & You Will Pay. Pack Up Losers, It’s Time For You to Go!

How do you like me now South Bay spewers of greenhouse gases?  Yeah, I’m talking to you Exxon/Mobil mercenaries who work at the Torrance refinery and you amoral assassins who get your blood money from the Chevron refinery in El Segundo.

I told you there was a new sheriff in town and that your days in my community were numbered.  Did you think I was kidding?

Now the EPA is about to smack both of you upside the head – and these are only the opening smacks you both have coming.  Good thing you wear those hardhats.  Maybe you should have spread some of your slush fund bribe money around to the schools and libraries in Washington DC where the EPA holds it meetings instead of trying to buy your love here from desperate parents and city councils in the South Bay.

Greenius Breaks Tiger Woods “Transgressions” Story Wide Open! Golfer Admits Guilt Over Pimping Global Warming Products

Professional ball stroker, Eldrick Tont Woods, who goes by the alias “Tiger” broke down in  tears and heaving sobs yesterday afternoon when the Greenius sat down with him for an exclusive interview.  In order to secure the chat I had to agree not to feature any current photos of him or talk about how puffy and scratched up his face was.

Why We’re Taking It To The Streets on Friday, December 11 – Shining Our Light On Copenhagen

The Copenhagen Climate Treaty talks start next week on Monday, the 7th of December, a day that already lives in infamy but now awaits a new nom de plume.

At the end of the first week of those talks, people all around the world will take to the streets of their communities to hold Candlelight Vigils for Survival. We’ll be holding our South Bay Los Angeles 350 Climate Action community’s candlelight vigil in Hermosa Beach.

The reason we’ll be out there is because we know that we’re the ones responsible for President Obama deciding to go to Copenhagen and that we’ll also be the ones who help convince him to lead us to a real deal that gets us to 350ppm.

We know he heard us on October 24, and we’ll make sure he hears us again on December 11.  We know he needs our voices to drown out the Greenhouse Gas Gang who are freaking out because when we cut emissions we cut their profits.

Top Ten Greenhouse Gasers in California Currently Destroying Your Childrens’ Future

Chevron Refinery, El Segundo, California

Here they are, folks, the very Hot List of Global Warming’s Worst Merchants of Death. The for-profit companies who put the money they rake in from burning fossil fuels ahead of the safety, welfare and well being of your kids, of your parents, of your grandparents and of everyone you hold near and dear.

They know exactly what lethal damage their products and their manufacture are responsible for, but the money always comes first for these contract killers – unless of course you’re asking them to pay the bill for that damage.

So let’s take a look, straight from our friends at the California Air Resources Board*, at the Top Emitters of Greenhouse Gases in California, for 2008.  I’ve specially highlighted the three out of ten that are within just 10 miles of my home.

1. Chevron Refinery, Richmond: 4,792,052 metric tons
2. Shell Oil Refinery, Martinez: 4,570,475 metric tons

3. BP Refinery, Carson: 4,504,286 metric tons (9 miles from my house)

4. Chevron Refinery, El Segundo: 3,603,446 metric tons (8.4 miles from my house)

President Obama, Bill McKibben & I Want You To Man Up on Global Warming. It’s Time To Book Your Hotel In Copenhagen NOV 25 UPDATE: 1 Day Later Obama Says He’s Going

I voted for Barack Obama and I worked hard campaigning to get him elected. I would do it again and I’m proud of the small contribution I made to achieve change.

But I’m not happy with the President’s strategy or performance when it comes to our nation’s response to global warming. After the jump I’ll share what I said on Climate Progress about it yesterday, and you can read Bill McKibben’s comment there too.

But first, let’s listen to what McKibben told Grist TV yesterday about it:
